Rules & criteria

Please read our rules and criteria carefully.

Submission eligibility

  • Submissions are required to be entered before May 19th midnight via form on this site
  • Jury to decide for which category/categories games/companies/people get nominated except for Best Studio Award, Most Promising Startup Studio Award and Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Nominees to be announced mid June
  • No limit to number of submissions per company
  • Company must be located in Belgium (main office)
  • Only games released between November 16th, 2019 and May 19th 2021 allowed (exception: Most Anticipated)
  • Most recent release version counts in case of multiple versions
  • Early access releases allowed
  • Demo/vertical slice only allowed to qualify for Most Anticipated and/or Student Of The Year Award
  • No physical card, board or other games allowed (only digital games)
  • No gambling/online casino games allowed
  • No extreme nudity/provocative content allowed
  • Playable demo/full game needs to be made available to members of the jury AFTER nomination

Most Anticipated Game Of The YearUpcoming games that will not be published before May 20th
(requires some form of playable demo for the jury to review)
Student Game Of The YearStudent made games. These games can be submitted by the Belgian game development schools and students.
Debut Game Of The YearBrand new games by a brand new studio
Best StudioStudios achieving great entrepreneurial success, awarded by FlandersDC and requiring latest annual accounts, motivation of being good employer, motivation of giving back to community (such as coaching, advocacy, events...) and explanation of achieved projects (such as cool game launched, entered into great partnership, put a lot of people to work, moved to larger office, won an award...)

Most Promising Startup Studio
Startup studios (founded after January 1st 2018) that can demonstrate great entrepreneurial potential through their business plan, creative approach and/or track record. The winner of this award will be selected by Flanders DC based on a pitching round.
Audience Award
Games voted for by the players themselves!
Lifetime Achievement Award
1 person defining our local #BelgianGamesIndustry, awarded by the jury & BGA21 organization
eSports Event of the Year
Best Belgian eSports event or competition of the year, online/offline or hybrid
eSports Pro Player of the Year
Best Belgian eSports pro player of the year, for Belgian citizens (living in Belgium or abroad) having a contract with a pro team and getting paid to compete as main professional activity.
eSports Rookie Player of the Year
Best Belgian eSports rookie player of the year, for Belgian citizens (living in Belgium or abroad) seen as big players for the future, thanks to their good results the past year.

General rules & criteria

  • BGA21 organization reserves the right to reject any submission not in line with our values & criteria
  • BGA21 organization reserves the right to cancel or alter an award category in case of insufficient relevant submissions
  • BGA21 organization reserves the right to decide for which category/categories games/companies/people get nominated
  • Submissions for the eSports Awards will be organized by our partner the Belgian eSports Federation.
  • Nominees will be contacted some time after the submission period ends (mid June)
  • Nominees are required to be present at the award show on October 1st in the evening (in case we are allowed and able to have nominees physically present during the livestream)
  • As a participant you grant all needed rights to BGA21 organization to use the provided audiovisual materials in the context of the BGA21 award ceremony and/or for press use.
